You and I, have barely words
to speak to one another, yet
To cage the other, like singing birds
And hear that voice, we hourly fretSo many hundred miles apart, we may be still
Just the clouds and stars in the sky we share
Yet, drawn so near, and to our heart’s fill
We share deep nothings, our hearts laid bareAnd clasp that wire, to our ears,
‘Tis that silken thread that binds,
Over hours and hours, until our fears
Re-assured, remain just in our mindsHow much does distance play a part?
Does strengthen it love, or does it despair
Do a hundred miles matter to the heart?
Or does love make it seem the width of a hair?
Distances
